Heritage Impact Assessment: Proposed Expansion of the Jacobsbaai Abalone Farm
CTS Heritage conducted the HIA for Jacobsbaai Sea Products Abalone Farm. They propose to expand their existing activities on Portion 18 of Farm 108 in Jacobsbaai including an increase in tonnage and upgrading of existing infrastructure. The Archaeological Impact Assessment (AIA) conducted by Kaplan (2016) noted that the proposed development is likely to impact on buried shell midden deposits and unmarked Khoisan burials. The Palaeontological Assessment by Pether (2016) concluded that the area is underlain by formations of high fossil sensitivity. Monitoring by an archaeologist, and a Fossil Finds Procedure are recommended in the HIA.
